I can’t tell you how disappointed I am to see this.
Republicans at every level of government, from the state house to the U.S. house, are doing everything they can to block voting rights — one of the most basic tenets of our democracy.
And now, with Mitch McConnell coming out against this critical piece of legislation, other Republicans are sure to follow.
I need your help. Will you sign on to show your support for the John Lewis Voting Rights Act? If we can get 5,000 signatures by midnight tomorrow, we can show anti-democracy Republicans that there’s a groundswell of support for this bill:
My dear friend, mentor, and colleague, Congressman John Lewis carried the baton for the voting rights movement for decades. Now, it’s up to us to carry on that legacy.
Generations of Alabamians fought, bled and died for our right to vote, and we have an obligation to remember and honor their story. And the best way to do that is to continue their fight for voting rights — starting with restoring the Voting Rights Act in Rep. John Lewis’ name.
If Mitch McConnell and his Republican allies had it their way, they would make sure only their supporters and allies could vote.
But that’s no way to govern. In a democracy, everyone gets a voice — and we need to put in the work every day until that right is ensured for ALL Americans.
I need you to sign on today to show that you stand with me in support of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Will you stand up for voting rights today?
Thanks for using your voice today,
Terri Sewell
