Today, I am excited to announce that I am officially filing to run for U.S. Senate against Rand Paul. And let me tell you, I couldn’t be any prouder to be running as the Sunrise-backed candidate who will fight for good-paying green jobs and a big, bold Kentucky New Deal.

 

Sunrise was the very first grassroots organization to join up when I wanted to run against Mitch McConnell in 2020. They were instrumental in helping us come as close as humanly possible to a historic upset in the Democratic Primary last year. There is no one else I would rather have by my side on day one of this campaign than the young people who make up this movement. I love y’all.

 

Since today is our official launch day, I need to ask you for a favor. Frankly, I need to ask you for $25. Our opponents and the political pundits are going to be very curious to see what we can fundraise in our first 48 hours. They’re going to wonder whether or not the movement we built last year was a fluke or a serious threat to win. I’d like to show them we’re the latter.

 

Will you become a founding donor to our campaign today? Every donation made on day one is extremely helpful because it allows us to show big grassroots momentum early on.

Don’t sleep on Kentucky. Oftentimes you see people write us off, stereotype us, or ignore us. But let me tell you, the good people of Kentucky are ready for change.

 

We all want a society where every single person can be safe in their homes without the fear of being killed by the government agencies we pay to protect us. Where the air is clean, and the water we drink won’t make us sick. Where we all have the same quality health care that politicians do. Where it’s not just the billionaires who have money in their pockets and a gainful life. Where poverty is a thing of the past.

 

So let us put to rest the myth that Kentucky isn’t “winnable.” It is. We’ve got more registered Democrats than Republicans in this commonwealth. We’ve got a Democratic governor who won statewide. We can defeat Rand Paul too. We just need the right movement and candidate. I know you are the right movement, and I hope to be that right candidate.
