Calling Out the Left’s Attempt to Take Over Our Elections – HR 4 is a backdoor way of achieving the same goals as HR 1: a complete takeover of the election process by the federal government and the voiding of all state integrity measures designed to protect voters like ID requirements. It would give federal bureaucrats veto power over state legislators and take away their ability to make their own decisions on the rules and regulations governing elections in their states. It is a reckless, unconstitutional, and unwise bill that would imperil the security of future elections. Heritage expert: Hans von Spakovsky
March for Our Lives launches new campaign to defund police in schools – As we’ve seen from recent spikes in violent crime—especially spikes in homicides and gun crimes—calls to defund the police create dangerous conditions that do not lead to safer communities. That’s what makes recent calls by advocacy groups, such as March for our Lives, to remove school resource officers from school campuses so short-sighted and dangerous. Sadly, violence at schools sometimes happens—violence that requires the immediate response of trained law enforcement. When someone enters a school intent on harming or killing students, every second counts. Because of this, having the brave men and women of law enforcement on campus and ready to respond is critically important to keep everyone on campus safe. Heritage expert: Zack Smith
Celebrating Founding Fathers Is ‘Structural Racism,’ National Archives Says – While elite institutions are hard at work shredding every connection between the America of today and what they see as our racist past, Americans are waking up to the fanaticism and racial essentialism that’s been peddled in our schools and institutions for a long time. Ultimately, the Constitution and Declaration of Independence are not just dusty documents of ill repute, and no “hall of shame” can tarnish the history of the Founding Fathers in the hearts and minds of Americans who still revere them. I trust we will see just how true this is during this year’s celebration of Independence Day. Heritage expert: Jarrett Stepman
Why Biden Commission Should Reject Court-Packing – Biden’s Supreme Court commission is up and running, keeping alive the calls for court-packing. This plan for a hostile takeover of the Supreme Court has been rejected not once, but twice, in American history. In both 1802 and 1937, the presidents’ parties could have enacted legislation to expand the Supreme Court. The Democratic-Republicans had a slim majority in 1802, but Senate rules at the time allowed a simple majority to end debate and bring a bill up for a vote. Democrats had an overwhelming majority in 1937, more than two-thirds that Senate rules required to get the job done. The majority, however, twice refused to place power over principle because, in the Senate Judiciary Committee’s words, judicial independence is “immeasurably more important … than the immediate adoption of any legislation however beneficial.” Biden’s commission and Congress should follow their lead and take the same stand today. We’ll Tell You What ‘60 Minutes+’ Won’t About How Transgender Movement Endangers Kids – Parents who find their sons and daughters struggling with their own bodies want to find counselors who will diagnose underlying conditions related to gender dysphoria, such as autism, trauma, anxiety, and stress. Yet in 24 states, this counseling is banned. I told “60 Minutes+” that transgender activists seek to silence dissenting viewpoints. They did not interview any of the lawmakers who enacted the counseling bans, and although they interviewed the ACLU, which supports these bans, they didn’t raise that question. Lawmakers who silence counselors that affirm the body also silence the voices of children and youth who want to feel comfortable with their bodies, but struggle to do so. Since at least one country’s highest court has ruled that children are unable to give informed consent to those procedures, and other medical organizations in both the U.S. and abroad are raising similar concerns, America should have an open and honest debate about these grave matters. Unfortunately, “60 Minutes+” showed only one side of these debates. For the sake of children, Americans need to see and hear both sides of the debates to judge for themselves. Corporations versus parents – The politicization of corporate America now threatens the freedoms and values most hold dear. Americans are in a dangerous place when the most powerful forces in our society have unbridled authority to ban books on debated issues. Lawmakers and corporations alike should opt to listen to the strongest scientific evidence and the concerns of most parents and voters, while putting the interests of children first. If corporate elites are going to muck about in politics, they should consider what the majority of their customers believe is best for their children. Heritage experts: Emilie Kao and Jared Eckert
