Vote From Home

John,

I am reaching out with an update on voting rights legislation.

There was good and bad news at the federal level. Senate Republicans have used the filibuster to block a vote on the For the People Act. But we have not given up on protecting our democracy. We can expand our Senate majority and pass this bill.

The good news is that the Justice Department will sue the state of Georgia for the racist voter suppression bill implemented earlier this year. However, we cannot rely on this suit. Federal voter protection laws are woefully inadequate. The Justice Department is relying on the gutted and weakened Voting Rights Act. But we can help this suit. We can pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act to help overturn the Georgia bill.

If you want to join our efforts to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Act and protect and expand our Senate majority, chip in $25:

Now, here is what happened at the state level:

  • After an eight-month investigation, the Michigan GOP has admitted to what we have always known. There is no evidence of voter fraud and the expansion of vote by mail led to a safe election.
  • Florida Governor DeSantis has signed a bill mandating all college students to report their political affiliation to the state. The bill offers no guarantee that the information will remain confidential, nor does it promise that the data collected will not be used to target students, campuses, or staff.
  • In good news, student IDs are now a valid form of identification when registering to vote in Maine, which will expand voting access to young voters. Additionally, Governor Lamont of Connecticut has signed legislation allowing citizens on parole to vote.

We can move forward, not backward on voting rights, but what was achieved in Maine and Connecticut only happened because grassroots organizations got to work. With your support we can make progress all over the country. Can you chip in $25 to support our grassroots efforts?

Vote From Home is a grassroots movement that's fighting to expand vote by mail. We helped thousands of Democrats vote safely from home in Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina and Georgia in 2020 and 2021. Now we're focused on stopping politicians and legislation who are making it harder for Americans to vote by mail.
