Dear John,

I'm Tennessee Representative Karen Camper, a proud mother, Memphian, U.S. Army veteran, and the first African American to lead Tennessee's House Democratic Caucus as Minority Leader.

I'm writing today to tell you about another U.S. Army veteran, James Mackler.

James closed his law practice to join the U.S. Army after we were attacked on 9/11. He stepped forward to serve in a time of crisis, learned to fly a Black Hawk helicopter, and did so with our 101st Airborne Division in Iraq. When he returned, James became a JAG officer and prosecuted military sexual assault crimes. Nearly two decades later, James is still seeking ways to serve and is running for Tennessee's open U.S. Senate seat.

I'd like to share something you may not already know about James.

When Governor Lee wouldn't schedule a public commenting forum about his illegal plan to block grant Tennessee's Medicaid funding - when Memphians were going to be denied our right to make our voices heard - James Mackler reached out to me and said, "let's host a public forum of our own."

That's exactly the type of person we Tennesseans need representing us in the U.S. Senate, and I'm so proud to support his campaign.

While Governor Lee has since added additional forums in Memphis and Chattanooga to the public commenting calendar, James still wants to know how the governor's block grants will impact you. Submit your comments here or send them directly to TennCare yourself.

James' campaign for Tennessee's open U.S. Senate seat is an uphill battle, but we will win when everyone wanting change joins the team to make it happen. Join this team today!

Sincerely,

Representative Karen Camper, District 87
Tennessee House Minority Leader
