The American Rescue Plan
How is it helping folks?
|
Child Tax Credit: What Does The Updated Credit Mean For Families?
CBS Denver
The revised Child Tax Credit is about to take effect. Starting July 15, most parents will receive a monthly payment of up to $300 per child, courtesy of the American Rescue Plan. That extra money, like recurring stimulus checks, can really add up, especially for families on the low end of the income spectrum. It may even be the difference between eating and not eating or paying and not paying rent.

Remember -- Colorado Republicans like Lauren Boebert, Ken Buck, and Doug Lamborn all voted 'No' to helping Colorado families.
Meanwhile, all of Colorado's Democratic members of the Congressional delegation voted 'Yes'!
But how else does the American Rescue Plan specifically help Coloradans, you ask? Click the link to find out!

How Colorado lawmakers changed policing in their first full session since George Floyd protests
The Denver Post
In their first full legislative session since mass protests over police brutality, Colorado lawmakers passed bills to regulate use of force, expand alternatives to policing and make police actions and discipline more transparent to the public.
There was no sweeping reform bill similar to the one passed in June 2020, but lawmakers, law enforcement and advocacy groups worked to build upon those changes in the six of 10 bills about policing that cleared the Statehouse.

Moving Money: Ryan Call’s 2019 Presentation on the Colorado GOP’s Super PAC
Colorado Times Recorder
Former Colorado GOP Chair Ryan Call is in serious legal trouble for allegedly stealing nearly $280,000 from pro-Trump super PAC Rebuilding America Now while he was treasurer of the organization from 2016 to 2019. Despite the fact that one complainant, Cleta Mitchell, is a fervent election fraud conspiracist, her allegations are serious enough for the state Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel (OARC) to decide to move forward with a complaint following its own investigation.

Meet Shane -- our new Communications and Research Intern for the Colorado Democratic Party! Shane has volunteered and interned for Democratic causes for years, and we checked in with him to see what motivates him to donate his time!
|
What motivates you to volunteer with Democratic causes?
The motivation to support Democratic causes comes from the ethos that underlies the Democratic Party: putting others ahead of yourself. For me, there has been nothing more gratifying than working to elect leaders who are motivated by dedicating themselves to empowering underserved communities, promoting accountability in the public and private sectors, and forming coalitions to change communities for the better.
What would you say to someone looking to get involved?
Try and plug yourself into a cause, an organization, or a campaign that you're interested in and cherish every opportunity that is presented your way as a learning experience. Whether you are phone-banking, helping with voter registration, fundraising, or leading a team, there is always a lesson to be learned that can be applied going forward.
Also, keep reaching out to fellow volunteers or staff to pick their brains on what is going well for them and what they'd like to do more of. Trying new things can be intimidating and it has helped me in the past to have fellow teammates who are in the same boat who I can rely on, and vice versa.
