Hi John
I'm a native Arizonan. My husband and I have been together for 23 years. We'll soon celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. We married in California because at the time we were not permitted to get married at home in Arizona.
I want a representative in Congress who will truly serve all of us, no matter our differences.
There are four candidates in the race for Arizona's 6th District. One is the Republican incumbent, Freedom Caucus member David Schweikert, and three are Democrats running in the primary. I’m voting for Anita Malik because as our nominee in 2018, she won me over with her
pragmatism, compassion and courage. She never let her supporters down despite incredibly challenging circumstances. And, she closed the gap in this red district by 14 points.
I will also only cast my ballot for Anita because I know, without a doubt, where she stands on all the issues. She doesn't shy away from taking a stand.
Surprisingly, not every Democrat running in this race has easy-to-find positions on Disability Rights and Protections, LGBTQ+ Rights and Criminal Justice Reform.
A candidate’s position on these issues tells me about their core values. Silence or short, vague remarks leaves me wondering about what a candidate truly believes. And, it makes us
hard to hold them accountable when they are elected.
I see this omission as disregard for the importance of these issues.Like Anita, I believe individuals with disabilities should have the same access to employment, buildings and education as everyone else. Like Anita, I believe LGBTQ+ individuals deserve the same basic rights as everyone else. Equal isn’t asking for more, it’s simply asking for fairness.
LGBTQ Americans are among the top three groups to be victims of a hate crime. It is discouraging to know not everyone is willing to address this boldly and loudly. Like Anita, I believe the American criminal justice system must be reformed. We spend too much money keeping people in prison and too little keeping them out. Anita has earned my vote, and I hope you will join me in supporting her run to change Arizona politics. What we do on the ground here will impact other races up and down the ballot.
This LGBTQ history month can you chip in $10 or more to support Anita's movement?
She stands with all of us. Now, let's stand with her.
Thank you, Andy Broder
