Dear John,
For nearly a decade, funding for Maine’s most successful land conservation program has been overlooked by our lawmakers, but we’re excited to share that this is no longer the case.
Funding for the Land for Maine’s Future program made it into the state budget and was enacted by the Maine Legislature just an hour ago. This is a huge win for all Mainers and for our woods, waterfronts, and wildlife. Next, the budget heads to Governor Mills’ desk for her to sign into law.
$40 million for protecting Maine's iconic forests, access to our working waterfronts, much-needed renovations to our State Park infrastructure, investments in land for farmers to grow healthy food for Maine people, and so much more would be allocated to the program in order to continue all of this work and more.
Thank you to all of our supporters for taking swift action following our alert yesterday. Your advocacy makes a difference in Augusta.
In addition to LMF funding, the budget includes funding for addressing drinking water contamination by toxic PFAS chemicals, proactive planning for sea level rise for our coastal communities, mapping Maine’s forests to understand carbon uptake and its role in curbing climate change, and more!
There’s a lot of great work happening in Augusta this week. When our lawmakers are in Augusta, you can count on us to be there too. Click here to follow us on Twitter to stay informed.
Stay cool, Rani
