I need your help. Following the previous legislative session I vetoed two bills that would have done away with concealed carry permits and discriminated against transgender children. Let me be clear: these bills would hurt the people of Louisiana. Unfortunately, some in the legislature are determined to push them through anyway.
Can I count on you to contact your legislators to urge them to uphold my vetoes of these bills? [[link removed]]
SB 118 would jeopardize public safety by getting rid of common sense permit and training requirements for concealed carry . Coming from a family with a long history in law enforcement and as an Army Ranger trained in handling all kinds of weapons in a safe, responsible way, I know how dangerous doing away with concealed carry permits would be. Many community leaders and law enforcement officials share my concerns.
SB 156 runs completely contrary to our Louisiana values in its attempt to discriminate against transgender children by banning them from participating in school sports in a way that conforms with their identity. Even proponents of this bill admit that the problem it purports to address does not exist in Louisiana. It's time that legislators recognize SB 156 for what it is: an effort to discriminate against vulnerable Louisiana children. When other states have imposed similar legislation they lost out on major sporting events and business opportunities. SB 156 is mean spirited and bad for business in Louisiana.
I'm asking you to contact your legislators now to urge them to protect public safety, defend our Louisiana values and uphold my vetoes of these two bills.
