** Economic Democracy Weekly
------------------------------------------------------------
This week, we explore the paradigms—or worldviews—by which we conceive of the economy. Our lead article by Clara Miller shows how our current economic and philanthropic paradigms hobbled responses to the Great Recession. We also have two shorter articles that examine contemporary responses: One looks at a $250-million fund to boost Black-owned economic institutions within the existing system; the other takes us to Buffalo, New York, in which a community land trust director and democratic socialist just defeated a four-term incumbent in the Democratic Party primary race for mayor, part of a larger trend of women of color unseating entrenched Establishment-backed incumbents. Lastly, we feature a short video clip in which co-op scholar and activist Jessica Gordon Nembhard outlines the transformative potential for a different economic paradigm, one rooted in human values of liberation and dignity.
