[1]U.S. Senator Chris Murphy

Friends -

The truth is the absolute worst part of this job is the time spent asking people to contribute to my campaign.

But I am one of the lucky ones among my colleagues. My time at fundraising events and on the phones is kept to a minimum because the response to emails like this one is generally pretty great.

While I try to ask as infrequently as I can, from time to time I have no choice. I know from experience how easy it is for a billionaire self-funding candidate to pop up out of nowhere, and so I have to be ready.

And with the end-of-quarter FEC deadline at midnight, today is one of those days I have to ask:

Can I count on you to contribute whatever you can afford before midnight to help us reach our modest fundraising goals? I’m grateful for any support you can spare because it allows me to focus on the important work you expect of your elected officials.

Our fundraising numbers have slipped a bit since Trump left office, and I’ll admit that could come with consequences.

But if you can help us reach our goals, it’ll go a long way toward holding our Senate majority and continuing the long-term organizing efforts that we’ve invested in.

Every best wish,

Chris Murphy
