Dear John
This month, we want to hear from you.
It’s supporters like you, passionate about protecting our planet, who drive the changes to make this happen. So, thank you. We want to know how we can keep making a difference together.
By filling in this quick survey, you can help us reach more people with our campaigns and most importantly, have more impact. It takes just 3 minutes, and your response is completely anonymous – here’s the first question:
Do you talk to people you know about your concerns for the natural world and the environmental problems we are facing?

ASK YOUR MP TO DEFEND OUR RIGHT TO PROTEST
The government’s dangerous new Policing Bill threatens our fundamental rights. Next week, MPs will get the chance to debate and vote for changes to the bill in parliament. So, we need to tell our MPs that we expect them to challenge the parts of the bill that restrict our right to protest and criminalise the way of life for Gypsy, Roma, and Traveller communities.
Watch our short video for an overview of the campaign and email your MP to ask them to protect our freedoms, before it’s too late.

CLIMATE CHANGE COMMITTEE SAYS WE NEED ACTION – NOT PROMISES
Last week, the independent climate advisor released its progress report to parliament [1]. To be frank, “progress” is not the word here. It found that the government has so far failed to match its pledges to meet climate targets with the actual policies needed to reach them.
The review came as no surprise. Without a strategy for combatting the climate crisis, the government’s promises are just simply more hot air.
With no climate action plan and its support for more roads, runways and overseas gas plants, Boris Johnson’s government risks being a laughing stock at the UN climate talks in Glasgow later this year. We need to see real action if we want to avoid the devastating fallout of a climate crisis spinning rapidly out of control.

WHAT IS ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE AND HOW DOES IT AFFECT PALESTINE?
Everyone deserves to live in a safe world, protected from environmental harm. Environmental injustice is what happens when some of us aren't afforded that right – and it’s commonplace here in the UK and all over the world.
Recent media scrutiny on the continuing devastation in Palestine has reminded us of just that. From the destruction of land to the control of water supply, Palestinians are facing an environmental catastrophe.

Friends of the Earth Bosnia and Herzegovina are absolutely delighted that campaigner Maida Bilal has won the prestigious 2021 Goldman Environmental Prize for her campaigning to save the Kruščica River – one of Europe's last remaining free-flowing rivers. Maida is part of the “Brave Women of Kruščica” and she won the award for their campaign that included a 500 day occupation of a bridge over the river to stop the building of dams.
Our colleagues at Friends of the Earth Bosnia and Herzegovina are proud to have been supporting Maida and other amazing campaigners for many years.

MAKE THE SWITCH WITH TRIODOS
As we continue to ask the UK government to show real climate leadership ahead of November’s UK climate talks in Glasgow, we’re also considering the other ways that we can all help the planet – including making changes to our lifestyles.
One of these is making the move to a sustainable bank. If you open your first personal current account with Triodos Bank UK, they’ll donate £60 to us once your balance reaches £100. This applies to new Triodos customers, and to those with existing savings or investments with the bank.
If you’ve already made the switch, their “Refer a Friend” scheme is a great way to spread the word to have an even bigger impact. Eligibility, £3 monthly fee and terms and conditions apply to both of these offers. This financial promotion has been approved by Triodos Bank UK.

That’s all for this month, we’ll be back with another update in July.
Take care,
Aleanna Shaughnessy
Supporter Relations Manager, Friends of the Earth
