By now, you’ve probably heard the news: Donald Trump is in Texas today, pulling a political stunt at the Texas border alongside our failed governor, Greg Abbott.

Trump spent four years attacking our communities and everything we stand for. He threw us in harm’s way during the pandemic, brought racism and hate to a fever pitch, and sold us out to pander to his extreme-right base. Now, Greg Abbott is trying to do the exact same thing: turn our South Texas communities into props for his political theatre. And we’re not going to stand for it.

Friend, in February’s winter storm, more than 700 Texans died because Greg Abbott refused to do his job and keep us safe. Since then, he’s done exactly nothing to fix our grid -- and now, Texans are facing one of the hottest summers in history with the threat of losing power again. But instead of taking action to help Texans, Greg Abbott is busy promoting Trump’s pet project.

Texas Democrats are fighting back -- because Trump and Abbott’s racist, harmful policies have no place in our state. This morning, I’m going to a rally with our South Texas communities. Later today, Jamarr Brown, our new co-executive director, will join our partners in Austin to speak out against Abbott. And above all, we’re fighting to put an end to Greg Abbott’s failed leadership in 2022 -- whether it’s organizing in every community in Texas, or registering 2 million new Texas Democrats to vote.
