What Republican AGs have been up to these past six months.
Friend, we reached out earlier about the gains Democratic Attorneys General have made in creating a more equitable, safer country for all.
It hasn’t been a smooth road, though. While Dem AGs have been using every tool they have to defend our rights, Republican AGs have been weaponizing their office to (try to) overturn the presidential election, block COVID-19 recovery packages, squash climate reforms, and attack abortion rights.
In case you forgot, here’s just some of what Republican AGs have been up to these past six months:
Fighting the election results: Republican AGs drove our democracy to the brink of destruction by peddling election fraud lies and filing bogus lawsuits to overturn the 2020 election results – ultimately culminating in an insurrection on the Capitol. Dem AGs fought these dangerous actions every step of the way, in and out of court.
Blocking COVID-19 relief: As our communities struggled to recover from the devastation of COVID-19, 13 Republican AGs took legal action against President Biden’s $1.9T stimulus bill – a lifeline for millions in need.
Opposing climate actions: Republican AGs have united to challenge President Biden’s executive orders aimed at saving our climate. They’ve also tried to keep climate activists from being heard in court proceedings against the fossil fuel industry.
Attacking our reproductive rights: Last week, 22 GOP AGs urged Congress to bring back the Hyde Amendment, an outdated abortion restriction that disproportionately impacts people of color.
And that’s just a quick look, friend. The jarring reality is: Rather than defend our rights and freedoms, GOP AGs have been mangling them for partisan points. And that can’t continue.
