Good afternoon – The response to this morning’s One Click Survey was – to quote President Trump – yuuge! We listed 11 hot-button issues and asked readers to make an impossible choice: what one of those issues would they put on the call for a special session. Tomorrow morning’s regular Texas Minute will have the “click” percentages, but – given the overwhelming response – this late-afternoon Extra Minute offers just a sampling of the hundreds of emails I’ve received throughout the day. To put it bluntly: people are unhappy with our current crop of preening, do-little legislators. Citizens don’t want excuses; they want tangible results. – Michael Quinn Sullivan Tuesday, June 29, 2021 “All of these items should be addressed if they pretend to represent the people. Three card monte as usual.” – Donald Vandewerker “This is a Sophie’s Choice survey. I am compelled to make the moral choices to ban abortion and child gender mutilations. If it is so difficult for me to choose one, why is it so hard for politicians to address all of them?” – Dale Huls “I picked Executive overreach, for this reason: Republican leaders in name only, taking what our Texas constitution protected us against.” – Gene Klutts “I blame the do-nothing "republican" thieves masquerading as politicians the most since the Democrats have pretty much shown their hand. The two-faced republicans should have addressed all of the choices on the survey during the session.” – Steve Nuff “Without election integrity, all is lost.” – Bill Calvert “I chose “other” because ALL of these SHOULD HAVE BEEN DEALT WITH during the regular legislative session. That’s why we vote these people into office in the first place! So now after the fact, they need to put their grown up pants on, and deal with the ALL these issues important to Texans. There are future elections coming up. If they choose to NOT serve the citizens of Texas, they can and will be ousted.” – Gale Samms “Election integrity. Without it other issues are moot.” – Lisa Buck “ALL of these issues should have been addressed in the regular session!” – Andra Endebrock “If we don't have borders, we do NOT have a country. After we have a secured border, we can work on the other items. You can't put the cart before the horse.” – Eleanor Edmondson “A special session can not end with a loss so the gender modification should be the best track for a win. Democrats can't afford to be seen as molesters.” – Alan Smith “I could not select just one of the options on the survey because EVERY SINGLE ONE of them need to be addressed and taken care of. I’m really tired of Abbott’s game playing with the Dems, he needs to play ball or get off the field!” – Nancy Wells “Although all of the other issues are important, if we don't get control of our border, we won't have a state left to even be able to discuss anything else. Crime, drug abuse and chaos will rule.” – Nancy Lingle “Without reliable electricity, Texans die. They did during the winter storm. Without electricity, our society collapses. Simple as that.” – Robert Lee “Everything on the list is important to me, but without election integrity, none of my important issues will matter at all.” – Vikie Schwartz “I clicked ‘Other’ because they ALL need to be addressed and passed!!” – Reid Davidson “While I am passionate about most of the issues, nothing else matters if we don’t have fair elections.” – Richard Steenson “How can you pick only one?? All of the above are needed!” – Jackie Mumaw “That survey is a tough choice that serves to highlight the extreme failure of the legislature and the failure of leadership from King Abbott. We suffer from RINO syndrome. Would do us good to analyze Goldwater’s speech from 1964 convention.” – Rod Dixon “From his efforts relating to the plumber licensing issue, to his two dozen executive orders issued last year, and now to this woke CRT policy at TSHS, Abbott has proved he simply doesn’t care about the law or the Constitution or even how our legal system actually works. He’s a tyrant—by every definition of that word—whether you approve of his goals or not. Too bad the average citizen doesn’t understand our system well enough to be disgusted and enraged by his conduct.” – Jim Pikl “If our elections can be stolen we have no way to defend any laws we pass. Corruption will reign from the statehouse to the courthouse.” – Yvette DeOtte “School choice is a state, and national, imperative. Until we break the cycle of one-size-fits-all-government-controlled public schools, we'll continue to perpetuate bad policy, bad history, bad science, and flawed thinking in all other subject areas. We have CRT, for instance, because we do not have actual critical thinking!” -Paul Coraccio “You left Medical Autonomy off your survey. That's the only thing that I care about. The rest of that list is fluff.” – Lisa Duran “Without property tax relief only Californians will be able to afford living in Texas.” – Rhonda Joyner “Get busy, Legislators!” – Thomas Castloo “This past legislature was a failure. I moved to Texas in 2009 because I thought Texas was a conservative state. I seems that the liberals are slowing taking over. We need to elect true conservatives to lead this state. I may have to move to Florida.” – Steve Crowe “We must find people to represent us that will address them all.” – Roy Parker “All of the above! However, there is zero chance King Abbot is going to put restricting his power on the docket.” – Mike Weaver “If the House and Senate would have done their job when they were in regular session we would not have to choose…..In Texas, Republicans control all three branches of our government and there should be no reason these items were not passed in regular session.” – Norma Zeinert “The damage done by Abbott with executive orders was indescribably horrible and must not be allowed again!” – Roger Taylor “I selected ‘ban abortion’ but ‘stopping gender modification’ would be a very close second. if we don't also do ‘election integrity,’ ‘border security,’ and ‘stop executive overreach,’ we won't be able to keep whatever might get passed in these special sessions for long. All of these issues need to be dealt with, they're all important if we are to secure our liberty and future as a state.” – Bo Graham “I am flat-out disgusted with our governor’s and legislature’s abject failure to address any of those issues when they should have addressed them all.” – John Detmar “The only way to stop radical or rogue elected officials, no matter their party, is to be able to remove them through elections. If the elections are compromised or lawless our entire form of government is compromised.” – Debbie Faunce “Lots of critical issues, but without election integrity we lose our ability to significantly address the other topics.” – Karen Breazeale “The Republican legislators were tasked by the RPT legislative priorities with passing bills related to eight issues decided by the people of Texas. Eight! Not just ‘pick one and be happy, peasants.’” – John Bolgiano Quote-Unquote“The left wants you to hate your country but worship your government, which is the exact opposite of the Founders’ intent.” – John Cardillo Your Federal & State LawmakersU.S. Senator U.S. House, District Something not right? |
