Friend, there are just five days left until Spirit
Day, and we at GLAAD are working day and night to make sure this is
our biggest day ever to fight
for LGBTQ youth. According to a 2017 study by GLSEN, 60
percent of LGBTQ kids felt unsafe at school. 70 percent have experienced verbal
harassment, nearly 30 percent were physically harassed, and 12 percent
were physically assaulted.
Spirit
Day is our time to show all our LGBTQ youth that we’re with them, and
I’m asking you personally to join that fight this year. Will you make
a donation to become an official Spirit Day Donor and help fund
GLAAD’s work with LGBTQ youth? If you donate $100 or more, we’ll send
you a limited-edition purple ampersand pin.
Spirit Day is one of the most
important days of the year at GLAAD: Last year, #SpiritDay made more
than 1.6 billion
impressions on social
media, and this year, we want to go even bigger. We’re working with
universities and school districts all over the country to Go Purple,
and thousands of celebrities, lawmakers, and corporate leaders are
joining the fight to lead by example.
We’re living through a time when
the Trump administration has levied 128 attacks against LGBTQ
Americans, where anti-LGBTQ bullying and violence is on the rise, and
where the Supreme Court is deciding, even as we speak, whether LGBTQ
people in this country will retain basic civil rights.
This is the moment to speak out, to be bold, to
show our youth that we will not abandon them in this fight. Spirit Day
is our loudest and proudest celebration of our youth all year long --
don’t miss out, friend. We need your voice in this fight. We need you
to help us win.
Make your donation now to become an official Spirit Day
Donor, and when you give $100 or more, we’ll send you a
limited-edition purple ampersand pin to say thank you:
Thank you so much for all you to do
support LGBTQ youth and be sure to participate by wearing purple on
Thursday, October 17 or sharing a #SpiritDay message on social
media!
