This team has made major strides together in 2021. Take a look.
It’s been a packed six months, friend. The world is a vastly different place today than it was in January, and that’s due in large part to the passion of this team.
With your support, Democratic Attorneys General have helped save democracy from the brink of a Trump-led ruin, achieved major justice reforms, defended affordable health care for millions of people, and so much more.
Over these past six months, Dem AGs have done everything in their power to make this world a safer, more just, more fair place for our communities – and they’ve made some major strides. As a refresher, Dem AGs:
Protected election results: When Republican AGs tried to overturn the presidential election, Dem AGs were on the frontlines of protecting our democracy. Together, they ensured that votes in critical swing states like Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan were fully confirmed and certified.
Saved the Affordable Care Act (ACA): When Republican AGs tried to dismantle the ACA during a global pandemic, Dem AGs intervened and fought to preserve this crucial access to health care on the floor of the Supreme Court. Last week, the Justices voted to uphold the ACA, a major victory for the millions of people who depend on it for affordable, life-saving health care (especially during a pandemic!).
Work to make policing and criminal justice more equitable: Democratic AGs across the country have worked to hold police officers accountable and make our justice system fairer. In Minnesota, Dem AG Keith Ellison led the prosecution against Derek Chauvin; in Nevada, Dem AG Aaron Ford led the state legislature to enact criminal justice reform bills; and a coalition of Dem AGs urged the Senate to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, seeking systemic change at the federal level.
Defended our voting rights: With a flood of new voter restriction laws streaming in, Dem AGs have used every tool at their disposal – including legal action – to fight back against voter suppression. That includes creating more early voting locations in communities of color, protecting mail-in ballots from Trump’s Postmaster General, Louis DeJoy, and more.
And those are just a few highlights. Every day, Dem AGs and their teams work tirelessly to make sure that justice is being upheld in communities everywhere – so that we can all live and thrive freely.
