John: President Trump just hand-picked a Republican opponent for my race.

Here are some things you should know:

• My new opponent hasn’t even officially announced his bid for the Senate. He told Trump first.
• It’s not the first time his priorities have been out of whack: He’s been quietly planning his campaign for months while he’s supposed to have been serving our country abroad.
• He’s been a key player in Trump’s trade policies, some of which hurt Tennessee more than any other state.
• Not only does he have Trump’s “complete and total” endorsement, others like Senator Marsha Blackburn, are already making calls on his behalf.
• He was Trump’s Tennessee Victory Chairman, raising millions to buy himself a cushy diplomatic posting.

It’s no surprise that the president loves candidates who will rubber stamp his agenda. Tennesseans need someone who will stand up for what’s right for them and not just what’s right for Trump. We already know Trump’s policies don’t work for Tennessee.
