Unfortunately, we see it all too often in our work fighting to get folks IDs. Having the incorrect gender marker on an ID or being misgendered in a public space can lead to uncomfortable and potentially harmful situations for trans, intersex, and non-binary people. It can be a painful experience for those who are told they need proof of who they are. An airport checkpoint should not turn into a conversation about private medical history.

Transgender, intersex and non-binary people are already experiencing increased rates of poverty and unemployment, which makes getting an accurate ID harder. Making it easier and more accessible to receive a proper gender marker on IDs can dramatically change lives and help people feel safe. That’s one of the many reasons why we’re so proud of our work with LGBTQIA+ clients and why we’ve partnered with the Name Change Project.

The Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund’s Name Change Project ([link removed]) helps provide legal name change services so that the identities of transgender people match their legal identities on ID cards. Legal name changes are an important step to inclusive representation, which many in the LGBTQIA+ communities are deprived of.

Friends, Project ID and the Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund are fighting to break down obstacles to obtaining name and gender changes on IDs. Can you split a donation between us and the TLDEF to protect all citizens, regardless of how they identify? ([link removed])
