Recognizing a veteran’s service with a flag in the Field of Flags can mean more to them than you might think. Many veterans, like Robert Sherman, wish people would recognize their military service and honor their comrades who will never come home.
Following the September 11 attacks, Robert enlisted in the Marines to protect his country. After four deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, he returned to civilian life — but he quickly found that the camaraderie and accountability he felt while serving was missing. In fact, people weren’t even asking about his military service.
All summer long, people across the country are honoring our nation’s veterans by flying American flags in DAV’s Field of Flags.
But the Field of Flags isn’t just a beautiful display of patriotism. Each flag also helps provide critical support for DAV’s life-changing services for veterans and their families — services that helped Robert find the community and support he needed after returning home.
Please recognize and honor our nation’s veterans in a truly impactful way. Add a flag to the Field of Flags by making a special gift today.
