*Public comments requested on the proposed extension of a currently approved BJS data collection: National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS) [ [link removed] ] *

The Bureau of Justice Statistics encourages comments for 60 days through August 27, 2021, on the proposed extension of a currently approved data collection: National Crime Victimization Survey (NCVS). Your comments to BJS's request to the Office of Management and Budget, published in the "Federal Register [ [link removed] ]", should address points such as—


* whether the proposed data collection is necessary, including whether the information will have practical utility
* the accuracy of the agency's estimate of the burden of the proposed collection of data, including the validity of the methodology and assumptions
* whether and how the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be collected can be enhanced
* the burden of the information collection on respondents, including the use of appropriate automated, electronic, mechanical, or other technological collection techniques.

The NCVS collects, analyzes, publishes, and disseminates statistics on criminal victimization in the U.S. BJS plans to publish information from the NCVS in reports and reference it when responding to queries from U.S. Congress, the Executive Office of the President, the U.S. Supreme Court, state officials, international organizations, researchers, students, the media, and others interested in criminal justice statistics.

The Bureau of Justice Statistics encourages comments for 30 days through July 28, 2021, on the proposed extension of a currently approved data collection: Survey of Sexual Victimization (SSV). Your comments to BJS's request to the Office of Management and Budget, published in the "Federal Register" [ [link removed] ], should address points such as—


* whether the proposed data collection is necessary, including whether the information will have practical utility
* the accuracy of the agency's estimate of the burden of the proposed collection of data, including the validity of the methodology and assumptions
* whether and how the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be collected can be enhanced
* the burden of the information collection on respondents, including the use of appropriate automated, electronic, mechanical, or other technological collection techniques.

The data collected through this survey will be used to develop national estimates of the incidence and prevalence of sexual assault within adult correctional and juvenile justice facilities, as well as characteristics of substantiated incidents, as required under the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (Pub. L. 108–79).
