Dear John, If you’re watching the exacerbation of global crises, then you know the need to build movements that will both respond immediately and deliver on a long-term vision that grounds us locally and connects us globally. GGJ’s frontline communities and grassroots organizations are mapping out our vision for the transformation that is essential for our communities. Will you stretch to make a generous donation so that grassroots organizations can set our collective movement agenda for the period ahead? Click here to donate. Some weeks ago, we shared highlights from this year and announced the exciting news that we were embarking on the “Road to the Membership Assembly.” The
Membership Assembly is our highest decision-making body and a central part of our identity as an alliance that convenes grassroots organizations and converges movements. Hosted by local organizations, in places like Raleigh (2011), Detroit (2014), to Atlanta (2018), our Membership Assemblies have been a space to share resources, debate issues on the political moment, and build collective clarity around our strategies as an internationalist movement of movements. This month we launched the first phase: a series of consultation sessions with our member organizations on the “Road to the Membership Assembly.” This consultation process is critical to shaping our direction as a grassroots-led national alliance, in preparation for a two-part
convening in October of this year (virtually) and the Spring of 2022 (In-person).
During the Road to the Membership Assembly, we’re looking forward to: - Electing new member representatives to our Coordinating Committee to continue to strengthen our practice of accountability to our members
- Debating and strategizing around what it would mean to fight for a Feminist, Anti-Racist, and Regenerative Economy within our membership and beyond, and
- Shaping our strategy to contribute to building governing power through GGJ Action Fund, our
newly-launched 501(c)(4) sibling organization, a vehicle for direct policy action.
Now is the time for our movements to make meaning of the current political landscape, connect our struggles with global struggles, and plan how we will implement our long-term vision of a world that centers life, not death. Bringing our members together for this kind of strategizing is no small feat, but we are committed, and we hope you’ll join us in making it
possible.
Will you make a special gift today to support this phase of the Road to the Membership Assembly? Your gift of any amount will go a long way and support movements articulating a bold vision for this upcoming period.
