We help children and young people become great readers and learners at the CDF Freedom Schools® program—but not through rote memorization and phonics drills. CDF Freedom Schools “scholars” read world-class, culturally relevant books that draw them in and help them discover a lifelong love of reading. That’s the kind of learning environment that all children need this summer.

COVID-19 tested our country’s education system, and the system didn’t pass. Too many children encountered huge barriers to getting a fulfilling education over the last year, and gaps in opportunity and outcomes that already existed grew wider. The CDF Freedom Schools scholars we’re working with this summer will have a lot of unfinished learning, and we’re so pleased to provide them a safe and engaging place to continue their journey.
