When I walked Poynter’s halls as a high school student, I never thought I’d have the chance to work for such an esteemed institution and in a role at the intersection of so much. I do not take any day for granted. Recently, I've been able to hire a team of incredible producers and managers to support Poynter's teaching operations team to accomplish even more.
I'm delighted that other teams at Poynter are growing, too. If you're searching for a new opportunity, Poynter might be the right place for you. Here are some recent job postings (including remote-friendly work!):
Training & partnerships coordinator ([link removed]) . The successful candidate will work closely with journalism and media clients to assess their training and other programmatic needs, and then align with Poynter professionals to create successful and lasting relationships.
Administrative assistant ([link removed]) . This person will support the areas of recruitment, hiring, payroll, benefits, record maintenance, contracts and general administrative tasks for the Business and Finance team.
PolitiFact fact-checking reporter ([link removed]) . PolitiFact is the largest political fact-checking organization in the U.S. and is based at Poynter.
We're also looking for a new writer and editor to host The Cohort ([link removed]) , a twice-monthly newsletter by and for women in media. This is a 12-month contract.
For more in-depth opportunities for growth in journalism, scroll on!

Writers Without Editors: How to Edit Your Own Writing
Online group seminar, July 6-23
In a world where speed is of the essence, there’s less time for the many layers of editing that have traditionally stood between writers and readers. Fortunately, if you write, you have a facility for language that you can use to edit. In this six-session course, you’ll gain the skills you need to polish your own prose.
Former New York Times copy chief, Merrill Perlman ([link removed]) , will teach you how to overcome the pitfalls of editing work that you have created and how to correct errors more efficiently and effectively. This course is perfect for freelancers and independent journalists who don’t have access to traditional editors. You'll connect with fellow writers through a weekly group text chat, live video sessions and assignment feedback from Perlman.
Cost: $349. Enroll by Monday, July 5.

Diversity Across the Curriculum

Online group seminar, Nov. 1-22
This course — returning this fall by popular demand! — will give journalism educators an opportunity to make a real impact on the future diversity, inclusion and equity efforts of American newsrooms when they model those values in the classroom.

You will learn how to modify your current teaching to include more diverse classroom examples, readings, videos and speakers. You will understand where, how and why to examine materials for diverse voices. You will develop the instinct to audit the makeup of the topics, sources and authors you introduce into your teaching, and how to pivot to ensure diverse voices are represented.

Your lead faculty is Dr. Earnest Perry ([link removed]) , associate dean of graduate studies at the University of Missouri, a researcher, educator and consultant who specializes in issues related to diversity and inclusion. Barbara Allen ([link removed]) , Poynter’s director of college programming, will facilitate.

Cost: $499. Apply by Sunday, Sept. 26.
