Friend,
It was a beautiful and inspiring sight to behold.
Today, climate campaigners from across the U.S. joined forces under a collective banner in Washington, D.C., to tell leaders of the most powerful nation on Earth that inaction, empty rhetoric, and false solutions to the planetary emergency will no longer be tolerated.
Outside the White House, they raised their voices as well as their fists, and ultimately put their bodies on the line because they know—just as you know—that elected leaders worldwide continue to bury their heads in the sand when it comes to soaring temperatures, melting Arctic ice, and our warming oceans.
The demonstration was led by youth, but this multi-generational movement includes children, young students, working adults, and retirees—all of whom share the wisdom that too few of our elected leaders possess.
What these demonstrators understand is what Common Dreams also understands: that we are all in this together and that only bold action—matched by an uncompromising vision for a better future—will deliver the transformative change that science says is necessary.
So that is our top story today—and, honestly, it might be our top story tomorrow, too. And that's only possible because Common Dreams is a media outlet that has never taken a nickel from the fossil fuel industry, and we know there is no "both sides" to the destruction of sustainable life on Earth.
If you care about this planet and believe in the importance of fearless, independent media—please support Common Dreams today. We need you because we all need each other.
