Here's the hard truth about the 2022 elections: Far-right Republicans and fanatical Trump supporters are unleashing a tidal wave of voter suppression laws to drown our democracy. If they're successful, we may never get the chance to undo the damage to our political system.
The breadth of the Republican efforts to make voting more difficult is astonishing -- at least 389 bills with restrictive provisions have been introduced in 48 states. Beyond the sheer volume, these bills disproportionately target people of color and are an assault on the American ideal of “one person, one vote.” What these extremist Republicans are doing is shameful, but they'll continue their crusade because they have no other way to win.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is leading the way with new, dangerous voting restrictions -- and we know why. Stacey Abrams is likely to challenge Kemp for the governorship in 2022. Kemp stole the election in 2018 by using dirty suppression tactics, and he's planning to double down in 2022 to defeat her once again.
