John — Happy Pride!

One of the many things I love about the LGBTQ+ community is that we come together and fight like hell when we are under attack. And that’s one of the reasons why I’m asking you to join our campaign to defeat Elise Stefanik. She now opposes the Equality Act, which would ban discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity, and she voted against legislation, authored by an out gay Afro-Latino member of Congress, to protect LGBTQ+ business owners.

When I came out as gay nearly fifteen years ago, the people in my small hometown of Whitehall accepted me — because that's who they are. In fact, Democrats and Republicans in the North Country worked together to help pass marriage equality in New York.

I want equality and dignity for all queer people. That’s why, in my free time, I have worked with community organizations like Lambda Legal and the Stonewall Community Foundation. That’s why, as a lawyer, I have represented trans individuals in changing their names and accessing medically necessary health care. That’s why, as a Catholic, I have challenged the Church to be more inclusive.

Congress needs more queer representation (only 9 of the 435 representatives are LGBTQ+) and needs fewer people, like Elise Stefanik, who oppose LGBTQ+ equality.
