Friend,
We all have different backgrounds and different stories that define who we are. Today is National Coming Out Day and I'm grateful for all of those people who had the courage to tell their stories, despite the stigmas that to this day linger around the LGBTQ+ community. So many people endured gut-wrenching persecution to pave the way for others like me to come out in a more accepting environment. But there is still so much work that needs to be done to achieve equity.
My coming out story is unique from so many others because I had an amazing support team in my family. So many others aren't as fortunate. So many others experience severed ties with their loved ones and are never truly accepted for who they are. I may have lost some friends, but my family had my back and continue to love me unconditionally.
Today is so important, not because this is the established day to come out (it's not), but because it serves as a reminder that we're not alone in this struggle. There is an entire community acting as a support network for anyone who needs it because not everyone is as fortunate as I am and they need to look outside of their family for support and acceptance.
And I'm reminded of the necessity of these support networks as I anxiously await the Supreme Court's verdicts over the legality of discriminating against a person soley based on their sexual orientation; or whether my marraige will be upheld; or I witness people of color suffer an HIV epidemic at twice the rate of white people due to a lack of prevention and services available.
So we need to stay in this fight together! We need to be there for each other because for some, we are their only family and we need to lift each other up like any good family does. Please help me win this fight by supporting my campaign, whether it's by liking my page, volunteering, or giving whatever you can, even if it's only $1. I know that when we work together, we can move mountains.
