Friend — time is running out for us to reach our end-of-month membership goal. Now is not the time to come up short — here's why:
Earlier this month, a Trump-appointed federal judge officially overturned President Biden's executive order halting all new oil and gas leases on public lands.
The oil and gas industry is now rushing to re-start leasing all over our majestic public lands and waters while the judge's injunction remains in effect.
We're working quickly to organize grassroots opposition to these leases, but the truth is that we cannot do much without the support of our members.
We have set a goal to raise $100,000 before the end of the month, just a few days from now. Please help us meet this critical fundraising goal. Renew your LCV membership. Right now, all it takes is $5 »
At the beginning of Biden's presidency, he issued an executive order halting all new oil and gas leases on federal lands, pending a top-to-bottom review at the Interior Department, led by Deb Haaland.
We must put our country on track to transition to a clean energy economy. We cannot do that until we stop digging ourselves into a deeper crisis by handing public lands over to Big Oil.
President Biden's federal review of the Interior Department's land use practices is what we need right now to fundamentally transform how our public lands are managed.
Fossil fuel extraction on public lands generates a quarter of America's greenhouse gas emissions, which is why the industry is desperate for new leases like those covered by the judge's order.
We are working to fight back, by launching campaigns that move public opinion, inform elected officials about the dangers of fossil fuels to our communities, and show that politicians will pay a price for prioritizing Big Oil lobbyists over the health and safety of the people they represent.
We know that our fight against corporate polluters is too important to forfeit. We will always stand up for the environment and for a clean energy future. But how hard we fight depends on the success of campaigns such as these. At the end of this month, we will have to reevaluate our campaigns based on the support of our members.
