Every day that goes by, another
6,000 acres of open space are lost to development, and millions more
acres are threatened with drilling, mining, and other exploitation for
short-term profit by private interests. We depend on the generosity
of members like you, John, for
the
resources we need to protect public lands.

The Trust for Public Land is the only national nonprofit
focused on conserving public land for people. With your generous
support today, we will:

Support the Parks, Jobs, and Equity Act. This legislation being considered in Congress calls for a historic $500 million federal investment in local parks, championing
the movement led by The Trust for Public Land. The Parks, Jobs, and
Equity Act will stimulate the creation of thousands of jobs and
economic activity, expand park access for those who do not have a
close-to-home park, while creating and improving parks in
neighborhoods where they are needed most.

Connect vital tracts of land that
are most critical to conservation, including watersheds and inholdings
whose development would place fragile ecosystems at risk. Inholdings
are privately-owned land within the boundaries of a national park or
monument. When these inholdings are developed, it can destroy wildlife
habitat, interrupt migration corridors, and degrade the quality of
rivers and streams. Right now, we are working to purchase privately-held properties that fragment the Sierra Checkerboard landscape, and protect these lands to
meet the human, economic, and ecological needs of the area.

Lead a national effort to ensure
that 100% of people living in U.S. cities have easy access to a
quality park or green space within a ten-minute walk of home. Over the
past year, the pandemic has underscored the importance of the outdoors
and the respite and recreation they provide. Local parks improve the
health of nearby residents, boost the local economy, and unite the
neighborhood. Yet today, 100 million people, including 28 million
kids, don't yet have a park close to home. With you beside us,
we will change that.

In 2020 alone, The Trust for Public Land protected 73 places and created 94,641 acres of new public land ... built 23 new parks ... helped pass 31 ballot measures
... and won a huge legislative victory with permanent, full, and
dedicated funding for the Land and Water Conservation Fund. These are
accomplishments you should be proud of - because supporters like
you, old and new alike, helped make them possible!

John, I know you
care about saving land for people to enjoy as parks, gardens, and
other natural places. I can only imagine what we can do with your
help. Your 2021 membership contribution will help us conserve wild
places and iconic landscapes while creating community parks, green
spaces, and gardens, giving more people close-to-home access to
nature. Please act now.

Kim Elliot

P.S. Please accept my thanks for your ongoing advocacy and
support of our vital work - I hope I can count on you to join
The Trust for Public Land today to help protect every acre of land
that we can.
