Senators Tammy Duckworth and Maggie Hassan are both great friends and colleagues who bring important perspectives to the floor of the Senate.

Tammy was the first senator to give birth while serving, and she brought her newborn to the floor to make sure she could still cast important votes. I partner closely with Maggie, the mother of a child with special needs, on work to increase funding support for special education.

Tammy and Maggie were the only two Democrats to flip seats in 2016 — both by beating Republican incumbents. Now they’re facing their first re-elections, and if we lose either, we’re handing the majority back to Mitch McConnell. Those are truly the stakes here.

Holding these seats will be tough. No doubt about it. In 2016, Maggie won her race in New Hampshire by just 1,017 votes. Take that in for a moment. We would not have the Senate majority if it were not for her winning a difficult race by an incredibly slim margin.

So Republicans are going to be closely watching our fundraising numbers when we report them after the FEC deadline. McConnell and his corporate, dark money donors are going to be looking to see if Democrats have what it takes to hold these seats.

Big grassroots fundraising numbers can scare off potential challengers and super PACs. If they see that Tammy and Maggie have the resources to compete with their millions in dark money contributions, they’ll think twice. That’s why this ask is so important:
