John,
We journey with children who survived trafficking for the long-haul. From not being able to imagine their future, to being supported through every step of the way… until they’re thriving.
But it often starts in a dark place. When some youth enter our Survivor Care, they assume they're going to die young. I realized this in a moment I had with one child. I asked her, “What do you want to do in the future?” And she wasn’t able to answer any questions about it. And all of a sudden, I had an epiphany. I looked at her and asked, "Do you think you're going to die?” And she just looked me in the eyes and nodded. And I said, "Have you figured out when you think you're going to die?" She shrugged. "Are you going to live to 35?" She shook her head. "Are you going to die in the next five years?" She nodded.
We make sure youth know: This isn’t the end of their story. No. They can have a future. We’re reaching youth, sometimes only hours after being trafficked, and then journeying alongside them with the specialized care they need. Because of their victimization, some youth in our care have been victimized for so long they think their future is destined and out of their hands, but your donation helps change that reality.
I see youth go from thinking "I gotta live fast, I'm gonna die soon," to realizing: "Wow, a future I never imagined is possible." I see this blossoming that happens and can almost physically feel the weight that gets lifted from that young person. You help make that possible.
I admire our donors immensely for making this work happen; we need you. In just 5 days, it’s the end of our fiscal year. It’s important that we end in a strong place. Right now, a company called Waste Connections is offering to double your donation. Can you help us raise $20,000 in the next 3 days?Click right here to give ([link removed]) – let’s do this!
Thank you for insisting this story can end differently.
