STORIES FROM THE NATION

Anti-Semitic Rep. Ilhan Omar has been in some hot water over campaign finance problems and lying about marrying her brother. No matter who she married, she's now filing for divorce and the hole just keeps getting deeper. New York Post <[link removed]>

Sen. Elizabeth Warren was a teacher (and a Republican, or at least so she claimed) long before she became a far-left politician. She also claimed that she was fired from her teaching job for being pregnant. Like a lot of things she says, she lied. The Washington Free Beacon <[link removed]>

Former Texas Congressman Beto O'Rourke is desperate to get above his 0% polling average and has taken the incredibly radical step to call for stripping the tax-exempt status for churches, colleges, or charities. Not kidding. Washington Examiner <[link removed]>

Eric Holder's Democrat redistricting group has set its sights on North Carolina's Congressional districts. They're not interested in fair maps; They're interested in rigging the system for Democrats. It's time to stand up for them (and win back the NC Supreme Court). Fox News <[link removed]>

STORIES FROM NC

Democrat State Auditor Beth Wood appeared on a radio talk show this week and detailed some serious problems with NC's Medicaid system <[link removed]>, the same one her fellow Democrats are trying to expand. Here's the killer line: "You just can’t keep putting a bunch of people into a system that is already broken.” The News & Observer <[link removed]>

There are several Democrats running for the Superintendent of Public Instruction position in 2020. They recently held a forum and in what is no surprise, all of them are against charter schools and voucher programs. The News & Observer <[link removed]>

Speaking of charter schools, the federal government awarded $10 million to the state to help expand charter school opportunities for educationally disadvantaged students. The state may actually have trouble spending the money. Find out why and how that can change. Carolina Journal <[link removed]>

Governor Cooper applied for FEMA relief for areas impacted by Hurricane Dorian. The application was denied, but here's the real story: apparently Cooper's people screwed up the application from the beginning and knew it was a long shot <[link removed]>, so they tried to blame Sen. Burr and Tillis. Yet another example of Cooper failing when it comes to hurricane relief. Spectrum News <[link removed]>

TRACKING YOUR REPRESENTATIVES

CONGRESS

All the air has been sucked up by the impeachment, but the House did pass a bipartisan bill to help families get through TSA <[link removed]> a little easier at airports. The Senate has been pretty quiet as they look at the impeachment proceedings since they are tasked with the actual trial should Articles be introduced and passed out of the House. However, Judiciary Chairman Sen. Chuck Grassley is trying to get an update <[link removed]> on those who made the false accusations against now-Justice Kavanaugh during his confirmation. 

GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Contrary to their federal counterparts, the NCGA was quite busy this week. Since Cooper continues to hold the budget hostage over his Medicaid expansion ultimatum, the respective chambers have passed mini-budgets in an effort to get funding out. They passed bills boosting spending at community colleges <[link removed]> and rural broadband grants <[link removed]>, and are looking at more mini budgets aimed at education, namely teacher pay increases <[link removed]>.

The Senate passed the funding piece <[link removed]> to the Raise The Age criminal justice reform bill that passed last year. A Senate committee also looked at more criminal justice reform, aimed at sentencing reform <[link removed]>.
