Dear John,

While we don’t have final results in the NYC elections yet (that will happen once all the absentee ballots are in and counted), we do have clear results in the election process and by all indicators, Ranked Choice Voting has come out a winner!

We are, of course, not surprised as we have seen RCV used with remarkable success in the Twin Cities for more than a decade. But we couldn’t be more thrilled than to have our success here replicated in the nation’s largest city! It went off without a hitch:

  1. Turnout was up from the previous open mayoral election cycle.
  2. News reports show that voters ranked their ballots and found ranking to be easy.
  3. The results in the competitive mayor’s race were split among multiple candidates and rather than asking voters to come back to vote in a second-election runoff to decide the outcome, they did it all in one trip to the polls.
  4. The candidate fields were diverse with respect to gender, ethnicity and political views.
  5. Rather than a mudfest between the top two candidates in a traditional runoff, some candidates in the mayor’s race coalesced, promoted their second-choice endorsements, and kept attacks on each other at bay.

In short, NYC sets the stage for more cities and more states to follow, starting right here in Minnesota. We are on the cusp of becoming the next state to adopt RCV for state and federal elections and the FIRST state to do so with the vote of the legislature. This is HUGE! But we are not there yet and we need your help.

Right now, we have a generous match for ALL donations received and we need to raise an additional $41k to hit our match goal. Will you help us keep our momentum going by chipping in now?

The next steps are to pass the RCV for MN bill in the House next session (with the most number of authors of any bill, we are nearly there!), elect a pro-RCV Senate and Governor in 2022 and pass it in both the House and Senate in 2023 for the Governor's signature.

We can do it, but ONLY with your support! Please help us ensure Minnesota can take the baton from NYC and keep the momentum for RCV going!

Thank you in advance for your generous support!
