Hi there,
Thank you to everyone who responded to our poll asking if Manhattan DA Cy Vance should indict Donald Trump while he is staying at his golf club in New Jersey this summer. Holding Trump accountable for the crimes he's committed, both in and out of office, is an important step in healing the wounds our nation suffered under Trump's administration.
But Florida governor Ron DeSantis hasn't faced any consequences for shamelessly shielding Trump.
As a refresher, Trump is currently under investigation for fraud related to his New York businesses. DA Vance reportedly has the evidence to indict him. But with Trump spending most of the year at Mar-A-Lago in south Florida, Governor DeSantis has said that he would use a loophole in Florida law to protect Trump from extradition to New York.
DeSantis is the same governor who recently signed a law criminalizing protests and limiting constitutionally-protected free speech. He called this law “the strongest anti-looting, anti-rioting, pro-law-enforcement piece of legislation in the country.” His negligence caused over 37,000 Floridians to die from COVID-19, and even as the death toll was rising by the day, DeSantis refused to lock down much of the state. But, even for DeSantis, sheltering a criminal is an obscene abuse of power.
Openly sheltering accused criminals like Trump must be the final straw for DeSantis' time in office.
