Friend —

I first came out in college. Back then, I knew I was interested in public service, and I feared that I would face a serious choice between pursuing the field of my dreams or living my life openly.

Seeing others in the LGBTQ community demonstrate acts of courage by coming out, being themselves, and being public about who they are and who they love — I came to realize that I could do both.

I could run for office and be honest about who I am.

When I became the first openly gay Senator in our nation's history, I understood that this extraordinary opportunity needed to be used to make a difference in people's lives.

That's why I ran in the first place — not to make history, but to make a difference. And folks like you supported me because you wanted to make a difference, too. I'm asking you to keep going.

This National Coming Out Day, we need to make sure our hard-fought victories are not undone by this administration or its allies in Congress — starting with the Equality Act. It has already passed the House, but Mitch McConnell is blocking a vote in the Senate.

There’s no other way around it, folks: if we’re going to make sure our laws finally work to end LGBTQ discrimination, then we must end the Republicans’ stranglehold on the Senate majority.

Will you pitch in $10 or more to help Democrats flip the Senate in 2020 and elect leaders who will fight for our communities? Anything you can give will go a long way in the fight for equality and acceptance.

With anti-LGBTQ measures being proposed (and horrifically, passed) throughout the country, protections for transgender Americans being rolled back by this administration, and the Supreme Court taking up a landmark case that will decide our future — the fight continues.

Together, we can build a country where equality and justice endures.

Where LGBTQ workers cannot be fired for who they love. Where LGBTQ kids are protected from bullies in school. Where LGBTQ renters cannot be denied or kicked out of their homes for who they are. And where patriotic trans servicemembers are not banned from serving the country they love.

We can do all of that, but it's going to take each and every one of us joining this fight. Add a donation of $10 or more today to help us flip the Senate, send anti-LGBTQ politicians packing, and elect leaders who will work toward full equality.
