Friend,

Today is National Coming Out Day, which for many in the LGBTQ+ community marks one of the most important decisions of their lives. Whether you’re struggling with coming out in a community that may not fully accept you, already out, or even being supportive of a friend or loved one, today we’re with you.

But today is not just about support. It should be a call to action and a reminder that while we have made significant progress, the fact remains that our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters face incredible obstacles to achieving basic equality. Things like renting a home, working for a living, and equal access to education are made difficult or impossible. Too often, local or state laws dictate where they can live openly – and where they can legally be discriminated against.

It’s wrong. It’s unacceptable. It’s unconstitutional. And we can’t stand by and let it go on any longer. Please add your name here to demand the Senate vote on the Equality Act.

Fundamental rights should not be a partisan issue. Or a bipartisan issue. As Doug has said, equality is a nonpartisan issue – and it’s time for Mitch McConnell to stop using it as a wedge to divide us.

By refusing to allow a vote or even debate on the Equality Act, Mitch McConnell is robbing an entire community of the ability to feel truly free and liberated. The extremists who follow him are taking away the inalienable rights that belong to every American.

Please stand with Doug today and demand a vote on the Equality Act.

It’s time to come together – as One Alabama and One America – and demand equality.

– Team Doug
