Ohio Governor Mike DeWine Week in Review

"For the week ending October 11, 2019"



On *Monday,*Ohio Governor Mike DeWine unveiled STRONG Ohio bill [ [link removed] ], a series of legislative proposals to better protect Ohio citizens and law enforcement officers from those with a propensity toward violence and to provide help to individuals who are a danger to themselves or others.

Governor DeWine unveiled his STRONG Ohio legislation

On *Tuesday*,Governor DeWine announced that the Ohio Departments of Medicaid and Job and Family Services will issue $31 million in new funding to support youth and families served by multiple systems [ [link removed] ]. In addition to providing direct support to children and families, these funds will also help to modernize Ohios 88 county Family and Children First Councils, which coordinate care for children served by multiple systems.

On *Wednesday*,Governor DeWine toured the Diebold Nixdorf plant in the Hoover District in North Canton. Diebold Nixdorf is a multinational financial and retail technology company with their global headquarters in North Canton.

*Wednesday*afternoon, First LadyFran DeWine toured theUHRainbow Center for Women & Children and promoted the Governor's Imagination Library Program.At the Center, University Hospitals provides healthcare services for women and children, parenting classes, and community resources in the Midtown neighborhood.

Also on *Wednesday*, Lt. Governor Jon Husted spoke at the launch of an innovative, private sector workforce development project between Huntington National Bank, Franklin University, and Columbus State Community College. The initiative brings courses from Franklin and Columbus State on-site at the Huntington Gateway Center where Huntington employees can take classes for free and earn both an Associate's Degree and Bachelors Degree without leaving their workplace. Huntington also agreed to absorb the entire cost of the courses for their employees.

On *Thursday,*Governor DeWine gave remarks during the Urban Institute's Conference in Cleveland. He discussed the administration's commitment to bringing private, long-term investment to Opportunity Zones, as well as the new 10% state tax credit for Opportunity Zones.

Also on *Thursday*, Lt. Governor Husted spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Columbus Crew SC stadium in the Arena District, near Downtown Columbus. The Lt. Governor congratulated the fans who participated in the #SaveTheCrew movement as well as brought greetings on behalf of Governor DeWine, who, as Attorney General, led the effort to ensure Ohio law was followed and that the community had the opportunity to buy the team and keep it in Ohio.

On *Friday*,Governor DeWine, Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) Registrar Charles Norman, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Ohio Security Director Donald Barker, and Columbus Regional Airport Authority President/CEO Joseph Nardone reminded travelers that strengthened federal requirements surrounding air travel in the United States go into effect in less than one year.
