We are in the middle of a storm.

From the White House lawn, the president of the United States has openly and repeatedly called on foreign governments to investigate a political opponent. It’s a disgrace to the Oval Office, and it’s a complete undermining of our Constitution and our democracy.

We had no other choice, because it is our constitutional responsibility to uphold the checks and balances outlined in the Constitution. We must hold Trump accountable.

I urge my Republican colleagues to do the same, so we can save the soul of our democracy.

History will remember what we do now.

We need to make sure generations yet unborn can look back on this moment and say without hesitation that leaders in Washington and Americans across the country acted courageously and demanded the truth.
