From the White House lawn, the president of the United States has openly and repeatedly called on foreign governments to investigate a political opponent. It's a disgrace to the Oval Office, and it's a complete undermining of our Constitution and our democracy.

We had no other choice, because it is our constitutional responsibility to uphold the checks and balances outlined in the Constitution. We must hold Trump accountable.

I urge my Republican colleagues to do the same, so we can save the soul of our democracy.
