I’m taking a break from fundraising calls to write this email.

I just checked ActBlue, and we’re $1,944 short of today’s fundraising goal.

Can you chip in with $22 to help me get there before midnight? Because I don’t take checks from corporations and lobbyists, every dollar you give counts.

The urgency of this race ramped up this weekend with the heat wave we’re experiencing in the Pacific Northwest. It’s expected to be 110 degrees on Monday.

Only 33% of people here have AC, the least of any metro area in the US. Homeowners here are almost 2x as likely as renters to have AC. And there’s no AC for people sleeping on the streets.

Heat wave deaths are deaths of poverty, and poverty is a policy choice. So is climate change.

It didn’t have to be the case that humanity destroyed its habitat. It didn’t have to be the case that corporations were allowed to extract every last drop of oil and chunk of coal they could, no matter the consequences. It didn’t have to be the case that every climate report is more dire than the last, the projections for the future even worse.

All of that was a policy choice.

And so is what we do now. I’m the only candidate in this race who doesn’t take fossil fuel money from the companies destroying our planet. I’m the only candidate who supports the Green New Deal, which would transition us to zero emissions and create millions of jobs along the way.

What the world needs now is ACTION on climate change. If we do nothing, the planet will heat up 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit by the end of this century.

Despair on climate is understandable, but we must take action. We can take action and preserve our beautiful planet for generations to come.
