The numbers are clear: The rich don't contribute nearly enough in America. Fortunately, senators like Elizabeth Warren are unafraid to speak that truth. That's why Sen. Warren introduced a plan to tax extreme wealth -- a plan which, according to new data, is steadily gaining in popularity.
The poll from Data for Progress shows that a tax on extreme wealth is backed by 63 percent of Americans. Even more encouraging is the fact that Republican voters support a wealth tax by a 4-point margin, 45 to 41 percent.
Far-right Republicans and their wealthy donors can't escape the truth any longer: Americans -- Democrats, independents, AND Republicans -- are sick and tired of seeing their vital services cut while billionaires only get richer.
Republicans spent the past four years giving HUGE tax breaks and bailouts to CEOs and big corporations while everyday Americans were forced to pick up the tab, especially during the pandemic.
It's time these billionaires who've been allowed to exploit the system for too long pay back what they owe us -- and Warren is making it happen. She is going to need all the support she can get from us as she fights an uphill battle against corporate lobbyists and special interests. Democrats control both chambers of Congress -- if we demand this change, we can make it happen.
