Join us! Attend Our People’s Map: Participating in the Districting Process Hi John,
On Monday June 28 at 11:30 a.m. and again at 5:30 p.m., our Native Vote program is hosting a live and online event “Our People’s Map: Participating in the Districting Process” and we want you to participate!
Did you know, every ten years, political parties draw up maps that – if rigged by partisanship – can give them discriminatory power and control? This is called gerrymandering. That gerrymandering often deprives communities of color their ability to elect candidates who represent their interests. The districting process is happening right now and will change Wisconsin’s political landscape for the next ten years – and we need you to be part of the process.
Join us on Monday, June 28 at 11:30 a.m. or 5:30 p.m. to learn how to draw a map that represents your community and your best interests. These maps will be submitted to the People’s Maps Commission for consideration during this year’s redistricting process.
The Red Cliff Outreach Site of Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe College (LCOOC) and Wisconsin Native Vote will host the event. Join us as community members discuss their own communities of interest and we create maps together.
Sessions are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. and will be guided by experts of the redistricting process. Participants can attend in person at the Red Cliff Outreach Site (a.k.a. the Cabin) or online via Zoom. Continuing Education Credits will be offered by UW-Extension. Light refreshments will be provided at the Red Cliff LCOOC Outreach Cabin to in person participants.
Thank you, and hope to see you on Monday, Dee Sweet Native Vote Manager Wisconsin Conservation Voices |
