Public school boards have often challenged student’s constitutional rights. But the Supreme Court just dealt them a stunning blow. A former high school cheerleader famously got in trouble for a post she made on social media. She used profanity to insult her school after she was cut from the team. The school found out and suspended her from cheerleading for a year. The problem? She made the post off of school grounds; the school apparently did not have the right to punish her for expressing her opinion. The case made it all the way to the Supreme Court. And this is what they decided.
