“Normal.”
America, we’re told, is returning to “normal.” Biden’s presidency is “normal.” Donald Trump is gone, and so we’re supposed to believe there is no longer any need to worry.
Joe Biden has promised that America will be back to “normal” by July 4. And that’s exactly the problem.
There’s nothing normal about triple-digit heat waves or out-of-control wildfires. There’s nothing normal about billionaires paying $0 in taxes, rampant voter suppression, or hundreds of mass shootings a year.
If we simply return to the status quo that existed before Donald Trump was on the scene, that would mean accepting a planet on fire, a broken economy, and a corrupt democracy flooded with corporate money.
We refuse to accept any of this as normal, and we will continue to cover the news with the same fierce urgency that we did for four years under Donald Trump.
