John -
In my first election, my opponent said I wouldn’t be able to mount a successful candidacy because I was a mom.
So I proved them wrong. I went door-to-door with my twin boys, and I won.

Some have said that running to become the third African American woman to serve in the U.S. Senate — and the first African American senator from North Carolina — will be difficult to do.
But I’m no stranger to tough fights, and I don’t back down from a challenge.
We’ve seen the same playbook and type of candidates tried time and time again in North Carolina. It’s time for us to try something new.
The obstacles are real. History shows that there’s a consistent trend of underfunding for women and people of color who run for office.
But I was raised in the church and am a woman of faith. Running for Senate required a big leap of faith — faith in myself and faith that enough people like you would step up to support us.
No candidate can win a race like this on their own, so my hope is you’re up to answer the call at this important moment for our campaign.
I’m grateful to everyone that’s taken this leap of faith with us. I believe we will accomplish incredible things together, and when we all do our part, we will win.
