Folks —

June is Pride month! A time to celebrate and honor the LGBTQ+ community, while recognizing the work we still have to do to achieve nationwide equality for all people — especially trans folks.

Let’s never forget that Pride began with a riot. The Stonewall riots were started by two trans women of color — Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera — demanding an end to police brutality and change for a more equitable world.

There is no better way to celebrate Pride month and honor their legacy than passing the Equality Act. That’s why I’m asking:

Will you sign my petition demanding the Senate pass the Equality Act immediately to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity?

While we have made many great strides in protecting the LGBTQ+ community, Republican state legislatures across the country continue to attack transgender people and roll back their rights — especially the rights of trans youth.

From denying gender-affirming surgeries and hormone treatment to banning transgender girls from playing school sports, to requiring schools to inform parents of “gender nonconformity,” Republicans are putting transgender youth at risk.

At least 33 states have introduced a record-breaking 100 bills rolling back rights for the transgender community. We cannot allow this hate to fester.

Sign your name now to demand the Senate pass the Equality Act immediately to outlaw this type of discrimination and protect trans youth.

I will never stop fighting for the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. Thank you for raising your voice alongside me.

P.S. If you’re out celebrating Denver Pride this weekend, have fun and be safe! Here’s a picture of Teddy and I celebrating way back in 2005.
