Friend,

After 50 years of the war on drugs, the public agrees that it’s failed and it’s time for a new approach.

Even President Biden has declared that no one should be incarcerated for drug use and committed to federal drug reforms and shifting away from punishment towards health.

Now is the time for him to make good on those promises: tell President Biden to end the failed war on drugs.

From descheduling marijuana to freeing drug war prisoners to ending harsh punishments for drugs, there is so much his administration can do right now to move us in a new direction.

During his candidacy, Biden acknowledged many of the drug war’s gravest mistakes. There is no excuse to stall any longer on making long overdue reforms a reality.

That’s why we’ve partnered with the ACLU to push Biden to take10 immediate steps [link removed] to begin dismantling the drug war.

He must take these immediate actions to undo decades of harm from the drug war which has targeted and disproportionately impacted Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and low-income communities.

And he must begin building a new comprehensive drug policy system that is based on public health principles rather than mass criminalization, incarceration, and punishment.

Nearly half of the people in federal prison are there for drug offenses. It’s time to change that. DPA is pushing for federal reform on all fronts -- we just worked to help introduce an historic drug decriminalization bill in Congress and now it’s time for Biden to step up.

President Nixon declared the “war on drugs” 50 years ago, and President Biden has the power to end it.Take action to help us force Biden to follow through on his promises and dismantle the disastrous drug war.
