John,
Every day, elected officials — both Democrats and Republicans — and institutions halt our fight for progress, and uphold a long standing status quo that has kept too many from accessing the resources they need.
Time and time again, entrenched elected officials show loyalty to legislation and systems that clearly undermine our fight for progress despite calls from the people to support change. It's clear that we need leaders in office who aren't afraid to go against the grain to finally fight for the change we all need — and I'm proud to lead this fight for all of us.
But if we want to continue calling out the systems and leaders who try to slow down our progressive momentum, we need to continue building up our grassroots coalition — and one such way to do that is through reaching our end-of-quarter fundraising goal before we publicly file our numbers with the Federal Election Commission after June 30.
When it comes to calling out leaders like President Biden or Senator Joe Manchin, some may say that I'm "fighting against the wrong opponent." But I don't see it that way. The real opponent isn't President Biden or Sen. Manchin or any other one person. It's the political system that benefits corporate interests and the status quo — and I'll continue to do my part to hold anyone who impedes on our progress accountable.
We now have six months under our belts in Congress. Six months of transformational progress, bold legislation, and dedicated activism for NY-16 and beyond — and our work is nowhere near finished. Our democracy is fragile and needs to be reimagined in order to truly represent our communities.
The future of our progressive movement depends entirely on how hard we fight for it. And no matter what the political establishment may say, I am determined to continue holding our elected officials and government institutions accountable, even when it's not the most popular thing to do — because it's the right thing to do.
John, reaching our goal is about more than the numbers. It's a rare opportunity to show how determined our movement for progress truly is, so let's not slow down now. Please chip in $3 to help us reach our end-of-quarter fundraising goal by our June 30 deadline, and before we publicly submit our fundraising numbers to the FEC.
Thank you for continuing to believe in this movement, John. I'm excited to see where our progress takes us in the future.
Peace and love,
Jamaal Bowman
