Friend,
I want to tell you a bit about Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin. Elissa is in her second term representing Michigan’s 8th district, which stretches from Lansing to Rochester and includes Ingham, Livingston and North Oakland counties. It’s a tough district, one that voted for Donald Trump again in 2020.
Before running for Congress, Elissa was a CIA analyst and served three tours in Iraq alongside our military. She worked in national security roles under both President Bush and President Obama.
Since being elected in 2018, Elissa has been a real fighter for Michiganders. She’s passed real provisions into law that will help clean dangerous PFAS chemicals out of our water, fought to lower the price of healthcare and prescription drugs and is now leading House efforts to look at our supply chains and help bring good-paying manufacturing jobs back to Michigan. She’s a great Midwestern Democrat: Practical, reasonable and a passionate champion for her constituents.
Elissa is one of the Democrats who is critical to our House majority, and she’ll be up for reelection in 2022. Republican groups are already targeting her seat. You see, the 8th district is a true swing district. For nearly two decades before Elissa won, the district was represented solely by Republicans. The district voted for Romney in 2012, Trump in 2016 and Trump again in 2020. That actually makes Elissa the only House Democrat to be representing a district that has voted Republican in all three of the past presidential elections.
I’ve faced my fair share of tough elections, and I know how important it is that candidates like Elissa have the early funds they need to run successful campaigns. Folks, this will be an incredibly consequential election cycle, and we have to protect our majorities in the Senate and the House.
At the end of June, Elissa will have to publicly report how much she’s raised for her campaign. Showing a healthy fundraising number can help us keep serious potential opponents from getting in her race, and keep Republican spending out of Michigan. That’s why I’m asking if you’ll pitch in today to help Elissa meet her end-of-quarter goal:
